In 3rd month limb buds appear and all major structures form.
According to Garbhasanskar, from the 12th week, the pregnant woman should be given milk + ghee + honey twice a day in a silver glass. Ghee should be prepared from the butter churned from the curd, coagulated from the milk. Milk and ghee provides nourishment to the foetus and honey acts as a catalyst. Similarly sathesali rice, milk and sugar to taste also enhance foetal development. Daily diet should include adequate amount of lentils, pulses, cereals, fruits, vegetables and milk products in proper combination.
Proper care is to be taken as the foetus is very delicate in the early months of pregnancy. Ayurveda has mentioned “Garbhasthapan Sanskara” to prevent any miscarriage or abortion. For woman with any history of abortion or miscarriage in the past, certain medicines are designed for each month to prevent miscarriage and for proper growth and development of the foetus. These medicines are to be taken under medical supervision only.

Garbhastaphan Sanskara is a treatment based Sanskara, recommended only for the woman with bad obstetric history such as miscarriage, repeated abortions, habitual abortions etc. Garbhasthapan Sanskara includes treatment of the woman before and after conception. Garhasthapan Sanskara mentions medicine, which consists of milk and ghee medicated with 11 herbs for oral administration and externally to keep in direct contact with the body. A small bundle consisting of these herbs is retained on the body.
Contact of these medicinal herbs with the body and intake of milk and ghee medicated with these herbs can prevent miscarriage. Many times lab reports appear normal with no certain causative factor for miscarriage or for retarded growth of the foetus in this case Garbhasthapan Sanskara is a ray of hope
